Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP)
At Upwell, Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) is offered to support resilience, connection, and healing. Guided by Jaclyn Burskey, PMHNP, our approach is grounded in the Roots to Thrive framework — a model that honors embodiment, inner healing intelligence, and trauma-informed care.
Every KAP journey begins with an individual psychiatric evaluation focused on safety and determining whether ketamine is a supportive option for you. Preparation sessions follow, where your intentions, mindset, and internal resources for wellbeing — known as your “set” — are gently explored and strengthened, alongside the environment and supports that make the session feel safe and sacred. When readiness emerges through the therapeutic relationship, the medicine session takes place in a calm, supported therapy space, followed by integration sessions to reflect on insights, challenges, and meaning.
There is growing evidence that KAP can support a range of psychiatric concerns, including but not limited to symptoms of: depression, anxiety, trauma and PTSD, obsessive-compulsive symptoms, existential distress, substance use disorders, and end-of-life psychological suffering. Offered in a safe, individualized therapy space, this work is guided by intention and the therapeutic relationship rather than expectation, honoring each person’s resilience and their own path toward connection, meaning, and healing.
Why is ketamine used “off-label” in KAP?
Ketamine is used off-label because it was originally approved for another medical purpose. Over time, clinicians and researchers recognized its potential to support healing when used intentionally and thoughtfully in a therapeutic model.

At Upwell, we aim to make KAP accessible to those who need it most. For individuals with a terminal diagnosis and accompanying psychiatric distress, we may offer in-home KAP services on a limited basis, depending on location, with the option to incorporate telehealth components. This approach helps reduce barriers to care for those whose medical needs are already being managed most comfortably at home. Coming soon! Please reach out if you’re interested.
